Medicinal food

The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) in the United States of America defines complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) as “...a group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not presently considered to be part of conventional medicine.”  The CAM may be sold as dietary supplements, drugs or food and are subject to regulation.  Dietary supplements can be plant based foods which improve health.
